blame it on anxious feelings walk away with no sound put it on anxious feelings mouth moves with no sound then he stared at the ceiling wondering how the sound that was once a familiar feeling found once lost and how... time wont wait
2.
Warmer 04:18
I found a way to keep the body warm burn the roof and burn the floor as the embers of foundation fade new motions brings a different heat I found a way to keep the kitchen floor it's tiled and scratched from life before empty chairs stand like a monument they're serving no one anymore found a way to keep the body warm found a way to keep everything torn
3.
Town 04:39
town waits and i'll take place settling in a common queue showing no face the grey space dissipates town readies itself for another long year town lingers in memory and memory's not quite what it used to be for what it's worth, the blank space is still there town readies itself for another long year so town waits but town don't mind inside, "we're fine" inside we're waiting for the next mistake told you to go and you had to know you'll be another footnote if they cite you at all so check off every box and wade away town waits another day self proclaimed or important either way all the same next batch is on the way and town waits
4.
Windless Air 05:09
comfort slipped in and convinced the eyes that rest was earned so risk feeling tired now been tired before im whittling away every piece ive lost are they to be jealous off been jealous before so i faked my death just to catch my breath while you survey the landscape i'll map the lines on our faces some new ones that weren't there before but we're even score then learn to love with your own voice like you ever had a choice so i faked my death just to catch my breath how does the windless air feel on your skin begin again
5.
Irving 08:26
count the corners above the four post well convince the eyes of timing it's an easy sell try on some history not yours but hell stick to the script read it well fake until you make it they can't tell cover up the accent mask it well welcome home you'll find it middle well stay until you can't anymore couldn't meld i can see my house from here lit by dim screen glowing clear i can see my house from it's fading fast but built to last green grass taking me back grey skies taking me back

keep warm live through sleep not clear sky water up to the knees and breath a surface tension suggestion says "maybe here's home..." or maybe here's not and I'm still swimming still learning to live where i'm not from the panic sets in but i'm not sunk there's stillness and ease where i was once in place, set of keys and a spot by the pond

Sabbatical 05:24
Said "fine" when I was figured out A small crime and I'm better now A knock, ring, and a letter combined to a sobering sooth. Past nine and I'm lingering out Talked tough but I'm better now These days my hands are trying to climb from the top of this. Every now and then I'll find the time To settle with the pieces that reside In comfort and warmer light. now am I still the same? after 30 under different name and by my side a town arms wide asking if I'd like to stay stuck between an emerald hill and place that still knows my Once my voice was a steady sound And I made a point to come around These days volume's not my strong suit. then hunch says to show myself the door and I'm running out stay in place for rest of the year and even when i'm finally of the mind to gather up the pieces of what's mine breath deep and draw the blinds sabbatical on the mind am i still the same spent half a life sharing my name found a way to keep the body warm an older place further from old that day to day sabbatical make me whole take me where i'd like to stay clear the air and clear the room time recedes and fortune blooms now i'm still the same not vessel for the name I... sabbatical find the time and find the place lift the mind from heavy space now I'm still the same not vessel for a name I'm separate, I'm the same found comfort, found sabbatical peripheral, adjacent comfort in a place and comfort in a distance.

Fiction Road 02:54
you showed me how to tie them on and how to place the left and right now here's a map with margins gone good luck and get lost take in the view from pedestal as if i wanted that at all now here's a map with margins gone good luck getting lost i'm peeling away under the weight of a moving picture that says "this is the way" as if I asked reach for the sound convinced and conviction says that a work around exists as if I asked everybody walks the fiction road now I'm pacing and erasing everybody walks the fiction road
10.
Melatonin 04:00
over all the city noise the broad line lingers in the night air connect the dots that lead to an ideal place replaced with a nightmare can't call my house a home and work takes days from eyesight smoke cloud lingers in the entry sets the pace well for the next week now melotonin and serotonin fistfight for ever bit on control left in me and sitting sidestage all access i watch an actor play myself exit left what do we own when steady stream of chemical mismatch takes it's toll at night awake and forcing a habit eat right sleep right sit tight make light
11.
i'll stay peripheral if it helps me to stay still blame it on a split seam, seeming the less that we know... but oh if i could only see me now how the anxious disspates and as if on cue found landing standing straight here's history past as mine traded a signal for aside i'll stay peripheral if i can stay still

about

When we started recording these songs in my basement in October 2019, they were just supposed to be rough demos to use to book shows. Then March 2020 happened. Instead of putting in on hold, we kept writing music and poking at it until it felt album-like. When Josh moved back to Iowa, I kept mixing and layering kinda aimlessly for months. There are days when I feel like this is a coherent album and there are days when it feels it feels like watching a car that learned how to fly try to figure out how it got up there in the first place. Either way, I'm still really proud of some of the ideas here. There are a lot of writing and mixing choices I wouldn't make again and a lot that I would, and Josh will forever be one of my absolute favorite people in the world to make music with.

This project wouldn't have been possible without the help of Loren Shumaker-Chupp, Eric Kogelschatz for loaning microphones and cables, Talor Smith for loaning an interface, and Nina Holzer, for providing endless patience, support, and love while we wrote, practiced, and recorded in the basement of our house.
